Gurgaon- Pranab Saikia
Under the leadership of philanthropist Pran Mehta & Rotary club of New Delhi inaugurated a very special and unique project of the club in Harsaru Higher Secondary School in Gurgaon last week. It was also the birthday of social activist Rotarian Aabha Jha, so the Rotarian chose the day to dedicate Aabha Jha . All the Rotarian fondly named it Project Aabha meaning 'light' which will be an ongoing project of Rotary named 'AABHA' for future developments in the school.
There needs no introduction abut Rotary International's Delhi chapter District 3011s’ herculean work that they have been doing for the weaker section of the society at different levels to contribute in all round developments of the society over the years.
“Our Government is doing its best by imparting basic education to these children through its municipals schools up to class V. It Delhi itself there are 2000 such primary schools catering to one million children coming from the underprivileged section of our society. In spite of providing all the facilities free of cost, yet because of the lack of governance, there is a big gap compared to private schools on account of which these private schools have mushroomed all over the country. Some years ago Rotary Club of New Delhi ventured to address this gap by governing one such school in Malviya Nagar – SDMC Nigam Pratibha Kanya Vidyalaya, Malviya Nagar New Delhi. With a thumping success today there are more than 80 clubs catering to more than 80,000 underprivileged children, who have adopted one such school within Rotary District -3010,” said Pran Mehta, District Director Rotary International District-3011.
“I am happy to inform you that as Literacy, Health and sanitation being the focus areas of the present government, Rotary as a world NGO also under its various capacities in the same field does a lot of projects to contribute to the Nation building,” said social activist Rotarian Aabha Jha.
“We have adopted a higher secondary school in village HARSARU Gurgaon, which even lacked basic amenities required for a school to access a congenital atmosphere for children to learn. Rotary with its initiative and unlimited capacities, has turned this school into a Happy School and has provided the number of following facilities which were absent. We are also involving the residents living nearby as to sustain the project in future,” said Sudhir Mangla, District Governor Rotary International District 3011.
“We have provided the school with a Computer lab, library with 2 thousand books, Two Hand washing stations, installed a sound system for their academic orientations. Besides that we have white- washed the entire school premises, the overhead water Tanks has been made to ensure safe drinking water and new flooring has been provided to give a better look and to the comfort of the students. We have also remodeled the toilets blocks,” said Prashant Sehgal, present president of Rotary New Delhi.
The Rotarian also did one Health Check- up camp for the student on the occasion under the auspices of SGT Medical. Students who did exceptionally well in the examination, yoga and annual sports day were felicitated on the occasion.
All the Rotarian has interacted with the students, teachers and parents and inspired them to come forward to co-operate with them on the regular basis. Present on the occasion were Prem Lal, Pratap Barman, Ramesh Chauhan, Ranjit Singh Sahani, Sunita Mangla, Madhumati Singh, Pradeep Jain, Anup Kumar, KS Chaudhary, Mukesh Yadav Deputy District Education officer and hosts of Government officers of Haryana Governments and local residents.
