Uthaan’s Women’s Car Rally Focuses on Women’s Empowerment
Recently NGO Uthaan had successfully organised its 11th Women’s car rally from Gurgaon to Jaipur, where several ladies from different age group took part in the rally to extol the causes of women. The number of participants this year was 235 along with 104 cars. There were 15 Marshal Vehicles. Significantly the rally has been recognised as the longest inter- state women rally by LIMCA Book of Records in 2007.
The NGO has been conducting the event for last 10 years continuously highlighting different social causes like, like Green Gurgaon, Energy Conservation, Women upliftment and spreading of education etc.
President of the Utthan Sanjay Kaushik says, “It was a wonderful experience for all the participating members. Though this rally we made an effort to create awareness on women’s right. Every year the numbers of participants are increasing phenomenally. This speaks the volume of the popularity of the rally and how it has become number one women's inter-state car rally in the country."
“I participated in the rally for the second- time. It was quite adventurous, disciplined and well-planned rally. Our fourteen-member team was the second largest team in the rally. All members were full of zeal. 69 years old Harminder Adya in our team was the oldest lady driver. The entire journey was one of the memorable events in my life. Decorated cars with messages on different social issues like- save the girl child, respect the women etc were very catchy. The slogans rightly conveyed the messages on women’s issues," said Dr Vanishree Pathak, a senior dentist from DLF-I
“The scenic beauties of the pastoral places were superb. We city folk hardly see such places. It was a wonderful experience for me. I hope to join in the rally next time also,” said Vandana Khosla, an entrepreneur from Sushant Lok-1.
Successful Entrepreneur Gayatri Luthra participated with her two daughters- 8-year Sanaa and 7- year Arshia, with sister Praketa and father Ravi Verma. 83-year Ravi Verma was the oldest participant in the rally and he was the navigator of Gayatri.
“Our family has been participating in the rally from last several years without any break. My father first participated in the rally. Inspired by him I joined in the rally few year back. The rally was an excellent platform to raise the voices of the women on differ issues. We felt as we were all from one family in the entire duration of the rally. Even lots of ladies shared their moment of joy, sorrow and suffering and struggle in life without any inhibition ", said Gayatri Luthra.

Women from all walk of life, be it housewife, doctor, lecturer, professor, engineer, professional from the corporate world, entrepreneurs enthusiastically participated in the event. Every year the rally is organised to a different location from Gurgaon. This year the flag office venue was Country Inn & Suites Bhondsi Gurgaon, Sohna Road. Enthusiastic participants came to take part in the event in the wee hours of the morning. Before the flag- off of the event all the participants had their breakfast and a short briefing by the Chief Marshal. The journey started at around 8.30 with the flag off.
The main route taken by the cars were Gurgaon - Sohna - KMP Highway - Panchgaon - Dharuhera- Bhiwadi - Alwar - Sariska ( wildlife sanctuary ) Thana Ghazi -Pratapgarh - Tala - Chandwaji – Jaipur. The participants took a break for the lunch at Alwar Bagh Resort. They covered a total distance of 325 kilometres and it took them total 8 hours to cover this distance. In the evening they took part in a cultural function in Jaipur, where they were awarded prizes and certificates. The mesmerising traditional Rajasthani dance, different instruments, attractive games were other attractions of the event. The participants spent the night at Rajasthali Resort, Gold Palace Resort and Clarion Inn and return back to Gurgaon next day.
