Rotarians Come Forward for a Social Cause
Recently Rotary International's District 3011,under the leadership of District Governor Dr N Subramanian organised an excellent District Polio Plus Committee Orientation and Planning Meet in India International Center Annexe building.
“ Remember ! India is Polio Free But Not the World Yet Risk is the same and Challenge is Bigger. Every where it's been advertised that India is POLIO FREE and we had a grand celebration of Polio-Free Status in Vigyan Bhavan 2014. Honorable President Pranab Mukherjee and then Prime Minister of India Shri Manmohan Singh gave fantastic messages from the dais. Our immediate neighbours like Pakistan and Afghanistan are still polio endemic countries. The susceptibility to this disease in India is certainly not in question because of the National Immunisation Day (NID) ,Sub-National Immunization Day (SNID) and Routine Immunisation programmes which are being effectively run and monitored too. But the biggest challenge is due to having porous borders and polio virus does not know how to follow the rule of LOC or they are beyond borders and barbed wires. If Polio reappears in India ,it will be much more dangerous and uncontrollable. ” said Aabha Jha Choudhary, noted National TV Anchor and a Social activist Rotarian and District Polio Plus Committee Chair, in an exclusive interview
Polio Eradication is one of the closest subject to any Rotarian's heart. This is one of the most important Flagship programme of Rotary international ,spread and followed all throughout the world. The tireless works and selfless contribution made by Rotarians from all corners of the world is unforgettable.
“India is free from Polio and our victory over Polio is not only our own effort alone but the contributions of all those countries , people, institutions, NGOs , unknown philanthropists and messengers of Humanitarian services. Organisations such as UNICEF, WHO, BILL AND MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION ,GOVERNMENTS OF ALL RESPECTIVE COUNTRIES ALONG WITH ROTARY COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS AND WELL COORDINATED EXECUTION OF THE PLANS , has made the impossible, possible,” she added further.
According to , India National Polioplus Committee Chair, Past District Governor of Rotary District 30 I 1 (DELHI AND NCR) and stalwart Rotarian Deepak Kapoor said , “Moreover recent recurrences of Poliovirus cases in NIGERIA has thrown on us , bigger challenge in maintaining our POLIO FREE Country status. We need to be very careful and emphasis should be given on Routine Immunisations. We can strengthen our own children's immunity so strong that it doesn't matter if virus is an intruder "
Current District Governor Dr N Subramanian said in his opening remarks" This is the time to repay back, all the help we received from the countries of the world when India was a high-Risk country."
"122 Nations benefited from Polio Plus Programme run by Rotary ,250 crores of children vaccinated, 90% children live in Polio-free countries,145 Countries declared Polio free. So let's make our neighbours Polio Free Now. REMEMBER ! reach of any Virus is beyond man-made borders.Only surveillance and alertness will KEEP INDIA POLIO FREE! " the seminar was an eye opener to all. ” added Aabha Jha Choudhary.
