The Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs, MrArunJaitley,has appealed to students to take to StartUp and innovative technology even while they were finishing their studies. Speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of the StartUp School at the Lovely Professional University (LPU) here yesterday, Mr Jaitely said, “I wish to see many ‘disrupter’ entrepreneurs from LPU.”

The Governor of Punjab, Mr VP Singh Badnore, who was also present on the occasion, and the Finance Minister launched the StartUp ringing the first bell of the first of its kind incubation centre in the country.  Amidst beating of drums, Mr Jaitelyalso inaugurated a three-day International Peace Festival and unveiled the emblem of World Peace which has a picture of the globe on one side and pigeon, the symbol of peace, on the other side.

Before the day’s proceedings began, the dignitaries, university authorities, faculty and thousands of students observed two-minute silence to pay homage to the brave Indian soldiers who were martyred yesterday morning in a terrorist attack in Uri sector of Jammu &Kashmir. Mr Jaitely reminded the students of the technological advancement made by the US, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and some other countries, and expressed confidence that Indian students will take to research and innovation in technology, and make a major contribution in capturing the world market.

Mr Badnoregave the example of the Yale University of the US to exhort students to be innovative and take advantage of the Modi government’s initiative of StartUp. Minister of State for Social Justice Shri Vijay Sampla lauded the economic progress being made in India under the leadership of prime ministerNarendraModi and Mr Jaitley. After welcoming the dignitaries, Lovely Group Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal said, “Our goal is that every year, at least 500 startups are launched, 100 are funded and at least 10 of these are of the series ‘A’ level. For this, LPU startup school will be providing mentorship through industry experts and academicians.”

The other prominent persons present on the occasion included RajyaSabhaMPMr Malik, Editor-in-Chief of Ajit Group of Publications Dr Barjinder Singh Hamdard, MLA Mr SomPrakash, Lovey Group Vice Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, and LPU Mrs Rashmi Mittal.One the most culturally diverse University in India, LPU has over 30,000 students from 29 Indian States & 50 other countries studying at the campus.
